Family & Relationship Mediation

When conflict resolution needs more than good intentions

Some issues don’t resolve on their own, regardless of how much both parties want them to. Mediation provides the structure that good intentions alone can’t create. Family Relationship Mediation is for family members and loved ones experiencing conflict, including adult children and parents, siblings, extended family, in-laws and other important relationships.

What mediation can help resolve

Mediation works through specific issues between partners or family members where direct conversation has stalled or escalated. This includes separation decisions, pet care arrangements, parenting arrangements, finances, shared responsibilities, or ongoing disagreements that have become entrenched. Our goal is to help you reach a clear agreement so you can both move forward without a court process.

Family Relationships

Families are complex, and conflict doesn't only occur during separation. Mediation can be a valuable way to repair communication, rebuild understanding and work towards practical solutions when relationships have become strained.

Whether the conflict has developed over many years or has arisen from a recent event, mediation provides a safe, structured and impartial environment for everyone to be heard.

We regularly support families experiencing:

  • Conflict between adult children and parents
  • Difficult relationships between parents and their adult children's partners
  • Tension between grandparents and adult children
  • Sibling disputes
  • Family disagreements following significant life changes or loss
  • Estrangement between family members wishing to reconnect
  • Ongoing conflict affecting the wider family

Our goal is not to determine who is right or wrong, but to help participants better understand one another, improve communication and, where possible, reach agreements that reduce the risk of future conflict.

How mediation works at Settled

Mediation begins with individual sessions so our team can understand what each person wants to address and what the real points of tension are. That groundwork shapes how the joint session is structured and where it focuses.

Settled mediators then facilitate joint discussions, keeping clear direction and firm boundaries. Our process is designed to prevent conversations from going in circles, so each session moves toward decisions rather than revisiting the same positions.
